Eleanor Volkenant (nee Larson), 83, died Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Olathe Medical Center, following complications from a fall at her home.
Eleanor was born in Evanston, IL, on November 17, 1930, to Carl and Ellen Larson.
She was multifaceted, handling the joys and challenges with a strong faith. Eleanor was a great mom who put family first, and she also was a talented painter and needleworker. She never met a coffeecake she didn’t like.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Clem and brother, Bennett. She now walks with the tigers.
She is survived by four children, Debra Baker and husband, Kevin Leonard, Tom Volkenant and wife, Margaret, Julie Bridges and husband, Bill and Karen Foster and husband, Terry. She also leaves six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2014, at the Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS, with interment following at the Johnson County Memorial Gardens. A short visitation is scheduled prior to the service, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Because Eleanor was an animal lover and an avid reader, the family requests that any memorials be made to the SPCA chapter of your choice, to the Johnson County (Kansas) Public Libraries or to the St. Joseph Indian School in Chamberlain, SD (www.stjo.org).
