Elsie Parsons-Buster

September 27, 1917 — June 10, 2016

Elsie Lorena Buster, age 98, the daughter of Mary Eunice (Foster) and Arthur Leonard Parsons, was born in Wray, Colorado, September 27, 1917, and passed away June 10, 2016.

Elsie graduated from Max, Nebraska High School and attended Kansas State College from 1935-37 with a major in Home Economics. She was a member of the Clovia Sorority at Kansas State. After moving to Kearney, Nebraska, where she lived with her brother and his family, Elsie attended Kearney State Teachers College where she obtained a teaching certificate after which she taught school near her home in Max.

Elsie met James Clayton Buster while at Kansas State. They were married in her parent’s home November 13, 1938 and moved to a farm east of Larned, Kansas, where Clayton farmed with his father. Elsie quickly took on the duties of a farm wife, raising turkeys, chickens, goats, and cooking for harvest crews, and later a family. To this union five children were born.
Elsie had many hobbies amid her busy life: gardening, canning, bread making, sewing, quilting, rug making, and others. She loved reading and learning, music, piano and organ playing for church services, as well as writing poetry. Card games were an important part of family life. She enjoyed canasta, pitch and Scrabble to mention a few favorites. Elsie also loved being in the mountains of Colorado and camping there with the family as well as visiting friends. Later, she and Clayton became snowbirds for a few years, traveling to Texas and Arizona. Elsie loved the Lord and was baptized into Christ as a youth. She found many lasting friendships through her faith.

Elsie worked in the Agriculture Stabilization Conservation Office in Larned. She later assumed the position of Director of Volunteer Services at Larned State Hospital. She taught herself shorthand and worked as a legal secretary for several years.

When Clayton passed away May 16, 1995 Elsie moved from the farm to a new home in Larned in 1995, then to Cedar Lake Village Retirement Center in Olathe, Kansas, in September 2011, and to the Good Samaritan Society in April 2015.

Preceding in death were her parents Arthur and Mary Parsons; husband Clayton; four brothers Charles (Clara) Parsons; Frank (Fern) Parsons; Earl (Inez) Parsons; and Lyman (Irene) Parsons; two sisters Alice (Kenneth) Ingram; and Jeannette (Walter) Weldon; sister-in-law Sarah Jane (David) Votaw; brother-in-law Charles Buster; infant grandson Kevin Buster; daughter-in-law Martha Buster; and nieces Bettie Parsons, Joanne Heegard and Jewell Ingram Bowman Fortman.
Elsie was a devoted mother and grandmother, loved by all.

She is survived by her children: Kent (Gitta) Buster, Katy, TX; David (Carol) Buster, Stafford, KS; Janis (Roger) Lindberg, Formoso, KS; Alan (Pam) Buster, Olathe, KS; and Bryce (Jan) Buster, Overland Park, KS; and 15 grandchildren: Kirk (Shannon) Buster, Kansas City, MO; Michael Buster, Kansas City MO; Sebastian (Jackie) Banks, Hutto, TX; Leonie (Scott) Alexander, Frisco, TX; James (Heather) Buster, Pittsboro, NC; Rebecca (Keith) Hudman, Houston, TX; Jessica (Chris) Poole, Wheaton, Ill; Sarah Umeda, Sacramento, CA, Carla (Jeffrey) Jerwers, Sacramento, CA, Paul (Michelle) Lindberg, Courtland, KS; Gina (Shane) Kaberline, Olathe, KS; Aaron (Amber) Buster, Mt.
