Elvira Powell

January 25, 1944 — August 15, 2022

Overland Park, Kansas

“Brothers and sisters, we do no want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus, those who have fallen asleep in him.

Elvira “Elvie” Powell was born to Virginia Roach and Guillermo Blas on January 25, 1944 in Colon Panama. She departed this earth on August 15, 2022 at the age of 78. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend who taught us to be fierce about family. She lived in Rochester for 30 years, with her departed husband Jack, before retiring to Deltona Florida.  We will always remember her love of singing and dancing, her pride of heritage and for teaching us the value of being good people. No matter the challenge in life, she always said, just pray “God grant us the faith to endure the things we cannot change.”

She leaves to mourn, her daughters, Melissa Powell Rochester, NY, Michele (David) Cromwell of Overland Park KS, her grandchildren, Carl Loury Jr., Tatianna Gillenwater, Todd Gillenwater II, Christopher Gillenwater and Chloe Cromwell, her sister Nidia Sinclair, nieces Nina Sinclair Green and Gia (Jason) McKee, cousins, Sheila Haire, Barbara Green, special family Diana Cardoza (Wayne), Patsy Douglas (Jim), Willean Banks, Ida (Jemmie) Broadhead, Hermenia (Julian) Greenald, Yolanda Johnson, Joanne (Reggie) Brown and children, Lattrice (Michael) Goldsby, Cynthia Johnson and Cynthia Allen, other family and a host of loving friends.

AN ANGEL

An angel lived among us,

A gift from God above.

She showered us with kindness

And shared with us her love.

She cherished every moment

With the man who was her life;

Walking hand in hand together,

Facing life with all its strife.

She loved her children dearly,

Each one a different way,

Nestled close within her heart.

Though, now, she's far away.

She's gone to live with Jesus.

But, she's here with us, today,

Smiling down on every one of us,

And telling us she's O.K.
