Esther F. Lockwood, age 96, of Mission, KS passed away on March 22, 2012. She was born on April 4, 1915 in Hurley, TX, the daughter of Martha (Foster) and Ulysses G. Goodenough. Esther was the youngest of five children and lived the longest. Esther's sisters were Marie and Adah and her brothers were Charles and James William. The family moved to Bates County, MO when she was 8 years old. She graduated from Central State Teachers College in Warrensburg, MO. Esther taught school in Bates County, MO and took care of her elderly parents. She married Leo Lockwood in 1941, they then moved to Kansas City. Esther and Leo owned Lockwood Motors in KC, KS for over 20 years, and this company was one of the first to import Volkswagens from Germany in the area.

Esther was a warm and loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. Her joy was being with the extended family. She loved to cook, make quilts, go to Arizona for the winters, travel abroad with Leo and baby sit her grandchildren. She was thrilled to spend time with her grandchildren. Esther adored her daughter in laws, Anne Lockwood and Judy Lockwood in a very special way. Esther also had a special relationship with her niece Phylistine and Don, Phylistine's husband. She was a member of the Zonta Women's business club, the Grandview Christian Church and the Countryside Christian Church.

Survivors include her son, Gary and his wife, Judy Lockwood of Prairie Village, KS; four grandchildren, Kary, Scott, Elsie, Mark and Matt Lockwood; 4 great grandchildren, Jackie, Noah, Caroline and Crosby Lockwood and daughter in law, Anne Lockwood. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo; her beloved son, Ted Lockwood; two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Visitation will be held from 1:30-2:00 at the funeral home. Burial will be held in the Johnson County Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Countryside Christian Church, 6101 Nall, Mission, KS 66203 or to Continua Hospice, 13002 State Line Rd, Leawood, KS 66209.
