My mom passed away today.
She was one class act. Sharp, funny, beautiful, stubborn, stylish, and full of fire. She had a heart of gold, but she did not hand it out carelessly. She loved with discernment. She saw through people. She knew things before you said them. She could hoodwink you before you even knew what happened, and somehow you would still walk away smiling.
My mom had wit you cannot teach. Timing you cannot fake. Grace you cannot buy. She could make a room lighter, make a hard day softer, and still give you that look that said, “I know exactly what’s going on here.”
She was an artist in her own way. We shared that. Art was one of the languages between us. A place where the world made sense. A place where color, feeling, memory, and imagination could all sit at the same table.
She was also an amazing grandmother to a group of women who cherished every laugh, every hug, and every moment they were blessed to have with her. She had granddaughters, great-granddaughters, great-great-granddaughters, and one great-grandson who all carry pieces of her forward in their own lives.
Mom, from my heart and from my breath, it was an honor to have you as my mother. It was an honor to be your son.
You were loved by many, and you gave people reasons to remember you.
Rest easy, Mom.
You are loved.
You will always be part of me.
