Faye Martin, 88, of Lenexa, passed away on August 21, 2025.
Born on April 12, 1937, in Atlantic, Iowa, Faye was the daughter of Harry and Mildred (Nelson) Fredrickson. She grew up on a farm near the Danish heritage town of Elk Horn, Iowa and graduated from Oak Park Academy in Nevada, Iowa in 1955.
After earning her Bachelor of Nursing degree from Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska, Faye dedicated her life to delivering babies. In 1962, she opened the first Labor and Delivery unit at Shawnee Mission Medical Center where she served for 37 years before her retirement. After retirement, Faye started her own business selling music boxes online as an early adopter of e-commerce.
Faye was an elder and longtime member of the New Haven Seventh-Day Adventist Church. It was there she started the Renewed Hope Food Pantry in 2011. What began as a small collection of food staples in a closet has since grown into a community-wide operation that feeds thousands each month.
Faye was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Franklin D. Martin. She is survived by her daughter, Alice Guerrero (husband, Douglas); granddaughters, Sabrina Guerrero and Isabella Guerrero; her brother, Roland Fredrickson; and a niece, Jan Fredrickson.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, August 27, at Johnson County Funeral Chapel. A service will be held at 10 am on Thursday, August 28, followed by burial at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Renewed Hope Food Pantry, 8714 Antioch Rd, Overland Park, KS 66212 or online at https://renewedhopefoodpantry.org.
