Frank Jacobs

Frank M. “Jake” Jacobs, 88, who lived at Claridge Court in Prairie Village, KS, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2014.
Frank was born March 31, 1926, in Cleveland, OH, to Harry and Eunice Jacobs.  He graduated from Dundee High School, in Dundee, IL and Ohio Wesleyan University, in Delaware, OH.  Frank served in the U.S. Navy.  In college he met the love of his life, Carolyn Ward.  They were married on June 16, 1950 and celebrated their sixty-fourth wedding anniversary this year.
After college, Frank worked for A.B. Dick Company in Chicago.  In 1958 he founded A.B. Dick Products Company in Des Moines, IA (now known as Infomax Office Systems, Inc.).  He retired to Horseshoe Bay, TX in 1990 and lived there until 2005 when he moved to Prairie Village, KS.
Frank was an avid golfer and accomplished the feat of three hole-in-ones.  He served as president of Wakonda Club in Des Moines.  Frank spent the last 31 years of his life helping others through Alcoholics Anonymous and the Powell Chemical Dependency facility in Des Moines.
Of all Frank’s accomplishments, he was most proud of his family.  The Jacobs family has enjoyed many great times together, always highlighted by trips to Horseshoe Bay, TX and Lake Okoboji in Iowa.
Frank is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; four children, Stephen (Vickie) Jacobs of West Des Moines, IA, Kim (Randy) Schlegel of Ankeny, IA, Mark (Janet) Jacobs of West Des Moines, IA, and Jill (Mark) Peterson of Kansas City, MO; 13 grandchildren, Danielle Brown, Kara Jacobs, Gregory Jacobs, Brett (Melissa) Schlegel, Shawn (Pam) Schlegel, Lindsey (Lucas) Larsen, Clark Jacobs, Christine Jacobs, Samuel Jacobs, Tyler Peterson, Morgan Peterson, Brooke Peterson, and Caroline Peterson; one great granddaughter, Ella Brown; and four nephews.
A celebration of Frank’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2014, at Claridge Court, 8101 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS 66208.  Prior to the service the family will greet friends from 11:30 to 1:00 p.m. Following the service there will be a reception at the Carriage Club, 5301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO from 2:00pm to 4:00pm hosted by Jill and Mark Peterson.
A private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Frank’s name to a charity of your choice.
