Joe Hennon, born February 9, 1939, in Cleveland, Missouri, to Perry and Leila “Shorty” Hennon, departed this life peacefully on January 14, 2026.

He married Anna Louise Himmelberg February 24, 1962, and together they raised three children, making their home in south Kansas City. After 30 years of marriage, Ann passed away in 1992. Joe married Marilyn Fancher Davis on June 25, 1995, and they made their home in Overland Park.

Joe graduated from Grandview High School in 1956 and from Central Missouri State University (now UCM) in 1960. Joe had a successful career at Midwest Research Institute, beginning as a junior chemist in 1960 and retiring as a principal scientist in 1992. His achievements include patents for fusion welding of thermoplastics and coating of buried electrically conductive structures, technology that was applied in the energy/oil industry.

Joe had and long and active retirement, enjoying his friends in the Lenexa Bassmaster fishing club and fishing adventures in Mexico, Brazil and Canada. He was an avid outdoorsman and skilled at woodworking, both furniture and carving.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Hennon, father Perry Hennon, mother Shorty Hennon, brother Perry Dean Hennon (at 11 days old), brother Larry Gene Hennon, and sister Mary Jane Foulds.

Celebrating his life are wife Marilyn Hennon, son Ken Hennon (Helen), daughter Karen Schuler (John), and son Doug Hennon (Stacey); grandchildren Leila Hennon, Fisher Hennon, Anna Schuler (Eli), Audrey Schuler (Gerrad), and Olivia Schroer (Carson); great-grandson Jack Wolkoff; along with nieces Perri LaTerza, Amy Joell Foulds-Pfeifer and many dear friends.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 18, 2026, at the Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, Kansas.

Honorary pallbearers are Curt Coglizer, Dave Vogel, Rob Monroe, Fisher Hennon, Carson Schroer, Eli Wolkoff and Gerrad Maxwell.
