Geraldine Ann (Swenson) Perry, 91, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, where she resided at Tallgrass Creek.
Gerry was born on March 13, 1934 in Story City, Iowa and moved to Kansas City, Missouri as a young girl. It was there in grade school where she met her future husband, Larry Perry, and they were a pair from then on. They married on June 20, 1954, and lived in Columbia, Missouri where Larry was beginning his medical school studies, until their move back to Kansas City where Larry completed his training with support from Gerry. To their sweet union was born Jacqueline and Mark. Except for a few early years spent with their young family in Roswell, New Mexico, where Larry served in the Air Force, Gerry and Larry raised their family in Kansas City. Gerry was a wonderful mother to Jacquie and Mark, providing a loving home in a close-knit neighborhood where so many friends and family felt welcome and were well-fed in the warm Perry home.
Later, Gerry relished being a grandmother to her three grandchildren, Michael, Kacie and Lizzy. She loved following their activities, near and far. She could whip up the most delicious meals, especially at the holidays, creating magical memories for the whole family, who now treasure them. Her love extended to moving Larry’s parents into their home and caring for them many years until the end of their lives.
Gerry, who had many creative talents, was an exceptional seamstress, sewing clothes and delighting her grandchildren with costumes, dress-up clothes and matching pj’s. Her most treasured creations were the Christmas stockings she needlepointed for each grandchild. They are loved not only for their beauty but for the hours and love she poured into making them.
Gerry and Larry were lucky to forge great friendships in the different phases of their life together, beginning with the Breen Hills neighbors who raised their kids together, and Old Pike Country Club friends who played tennis and took kids to swim meets. Later, they moved and joined Parkville Presbyterian where they met wonderful lifetime friends.
Near the end of their lives, the Perrys moved to Tallgrass Creek. After Larry died in October of 2023, Gerry was cared for by many amazing staff members in Tallgrass memory care, who guided her through each day with love, respect and patience. We, her family, are thankful for those special people who do amazing work.
Larry and Gerry Perry were blessed with a long life together full of true love and lots of laughs. Their love shined. They were always thankful for their love, their family and their friends. Their family is thankful for the beautiful example of love and faith they provided, and rejoice knowing they are reunited in Heaven.
Gerry is survived by her children, Jacquie (Tom) Steinbrecher and Mark (Barbara) Perry; her grandchildren, Kacie (Andrew) Kuykendall, Michael (Anna) Perry and Elizabeth (Michael) Klingler: and six grandchildren, Lindsay, Ria, Ethan and Archie Perry, Otto Klingler, and Camille Kuykendall, who was ushered into this world just 2 hours after Gerry passed.
Memorial services for Gerry will be on Thursday, November 20th at 3pm in the Wesley Covenant Chapel at the Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, KS, 13720 Roe Avenue. There will be a short visitation after the service to greet the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of choice.
