Gilbert H. Bledsoe, Jr. (Gil), age 85, passed away on October 27, 2025 at Santa Marta Retirement in Olathe, KS. He was born on July 3, 1940 to Gilbert H. Bledsoe, Sr. and Clara Bledsoe and was a lifelong resident of Kansas City, Missouri.

Gil is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Barbara; two children, Laura Herrick (Dave) and Stephen Bledsoe; and six grandchildren.

Gil graduated from Northeast High School in 1958. He received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Missouri at Kansas City as a Victor Wilson Scholar.

Gil started his banking career in 1964 by joining United Missouri Bank (UMB) where he became a Senior Vice President in the Investment Department. After leaving UMB, he managed the sales and trading of fixed income securities at several other firms. After retiring, he sat on the Board of Directors of a local bank and was Lead Director for five years.

Gil was also involved on the Boards of the Homes Associations in neighborhoods where he lived. He was a dedicated outdoor runner for 27 years and ran every other day regardless of the weather. He enjoyed fine food and wine, travel, mountain hiking, reading and gardening.

Gil’s ashes will be scattered in the mountains overlooking Dillon Lake in Colorado where he loved visiting both in the summer and winter.

A Visitation will be held on Friday, November 28, 2025 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf in Overland Park, Kansas.
