Gillian Moore

April 15, 1944 — May 19, 2021

Lenexa

Gillian Claire Moore “Jill”, was born Gillian Claire King on April 15th, 1944, in Lichfield, in the County of Staffordshire England to her parents Dorothy Jean, and Lawrence King.  Growing up she enjoyed holidays in the countryside with her parents, and brother, Peter King.

After leaving school, Jill studied in London where she met her first husband, Jim Jensen.  In 1968 Jill moved to Minnesota with Jim, and they were married in March of 1969.  Living in Northern Minnesota Jill and Jim enjoyed the lakes and forests, and Jill developed her love of sailing at the local yacht club.  The two also loved traveling to the West Coast to visit California and Oregon until Jim’s unexpected passing in 1970.

Jill’s career brought her to the Kansas City Area in the late 1980’s where she met Dennis Moore.  Dennis and Jill married in December of 1980, and had their child, Chris approximately 1 year later.  The family settled in Smithville, Missouri, where Jill loved to watch deer, birds, and be around nature whenever she could.  Her husband Dennis passed in 1993.

Jill began her career in teaching early childhood education in the mid 1980’s, which she continued for almost 25 years before retiring from the Missouri Conservation Department teaching conservation programs to children.

During her retirement Jill traveled to Japan, and Europe.  She enjoyed playing with her beloved cats, birdwatching, tending to her garden, and attending services at the Tenth Church of Christian Science.

Jill passed on May 19th, 2021 at the Lakeview Village Care Center in Lenexa, Kansas.  Jill is survived by her son Chris, daughter in law Emily, brother Peter and his wife Janet, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
