Gordon Toms

Gordon Toms, 94, passed away December 29, 2021.

Gordon was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years Iline Toms.

Gordon served in the Army before the Korean War and was a member of Overland Park VFW. Gordon worked as Financial Secretary of UAW before his retirement.  He was an avid golfer.  He was a member of Overland Park Christian Church. He was a member of Shawnee Masonic Lodge #54, where he was Past Master.  He was a member of the Scottish Rite in Kansas City.  Gordon was active in the Abdallah Shrine where he started as a Clown and walked parades and visited hospitals cheering children, he made balloon animals for children.  He served on many groups of the Shrine, some of his favorites were American Royal and Rodeo, Nomad Golfers, Bingo caller for 30 years. He received his 50-year pin from the Shrine in November 2021.  He was Potentate of the Abdallah Shrine in 1988.

He leaves his two daughters Vickie (Roger) Claar and Loretta Toms.  Sisters, Carolyn Newell and Joan Smoot, Sister-in-Law Marcella Bugni.  Grandchildren: Erik (Jenn) Claar, Aaron (Lacey) Claar, Zachary (Morgan) Claar, Melissa Nemechek (Les Harvey), David (Samantha) Nemechek, Jacob (Kelli) Nemechek, Patrick (Julie) Nemechek.  Great Grandchildren:  Matt Claar, Lauren Claar, Andrew Claar, Harper Claar, Lila Claar, Christopher Claar, Andy Claar, Maddox Harvey, Paxton Harvey, Rylee Nemechek, Ryder Nemechek, Graham Gordon Nemechek, Lucy Nemechek.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edwin and Ruth Toms and siblings Loretta, Genevieve, Lois, Margaret, Edwin, John, and Pat.

All services will be Wednesday, January 5, 2021, at Johnson County Funeral Chapel,11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, Kansas 66210.  Visitation will be from 9:00 - 9:45 AM.  Masonic Service, Shrine Tribute and Jesters Red Rose Ceremony will be held at 9:45 AM, followed by funeral services.  Graveside service will follow in Johnson County Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to:  Abdallah Shrine, Shawnee Masonic Lodge #54 or the Overland Park Christian Church.
