Harley was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Vern & Lois Crooks. He graduated from Shawnee Mission High School in 1964 and was in the Army Reserve from 1964 to 1978. He started his career as a brick layer, and later worked from Concrete Materials as a ready mix driver and a cement hauler before becoming disabled. Harley enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, and loved being with his grandchildren. He was an honorary warrior of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; brothers, Charles Crooks, Russell Crooks and sister, Grace Hunt. He leaves his wife, Christine and daughter Elizabeth of the home; son, Joseph of Louisburg, KS; 3 grandchildren, Abigail, Drake and Kaylee and many other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, December 5, 2008 at Pioneer Bible Baptist Church, 27000 Metcalf Rd., Louisburg, KS 66053. Visitation will be held the evening prior from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Memorial contributions are suggested to Pioneer Bible Baptist Church.
