Mr. Harry Mcnary

Harry Duane McNary, 72, passed from his earthly home June 9, 2007.

He will be remembered as a man devoted to his family and as a loving husband and father, known for his great integrity, keen sense of humor and lifelong loyalty to family and friends. He will be greatly missed by many. Duane was born August 12, 1934 to Harry B. and Janie P. McNary in Sabetha, KS. He graduated from Sabetha High School and received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kansas State University. At KSU he met, and soon married the love of his life, Carol Wilkins. After ROTC training at KSU, Duane served as an Army officer in the Ordnance Corps at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD, followed by service in the Army Reserves. Duane was a registered professional engineer and spent 31 years in Engineering at Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, where his machine designs and innovations ranged from penny Valentine lines to Kaleidoscope trailers, to the photo album page production line. His hobbies, included hunting and fishing, gardening, travel, and woodworking.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Janie McNary. He is survived by his wife, Carol of the home; his son Douglas and wife Ann of Alexandria, VA; his daughter, Diane and her significant other, Joe Lange of Overland Park, KS; and one brother, R. Orlo McNary and wife Eve of Batavia, IL.

Visitation will be 6PM-8PM Tuesday June 12th D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park. Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday June 13 at the chapel. Another service will be held at 3:30 PM Wednesday at Popkess Funeral Home, 823 Virginia Street, Sabetha Kansas followed by burial in the Sabetha Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to KU Endowment for Oncology or Kansas State University Foundation for Engineering.
