Jack Roland Cantril, 89, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025. Born on December 15, 1935, in Kansas City, Missouri, at Saint Mary’s Hospital, Jack was the son of Bill and Marjorie Cantril. From his earliest days, he carried a steady sense of purpose that shaped a long, faithful, and impactful life.
Jack often said his priorities were simple and unwavering: faith, family, their farm, financial information, and football. These values guided every season of his life. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Joanne, for 66 years; a proud father of two; grandfather to six; and great-grandfather to eleven. His legacy is deeply rooted in the generations who loved and learned from him.
Jack’s working life reflected his strong will, curiosity, and determination. He began his career as a chemist, developing epoxy products, industrial adhesives, and solid rocket fuel pellets. He later transitioned into the financial world, becoming one of the first Certified Financial Planners in the Kansas City area. As both a registered financial planner and income tax planner, he helped countless individuals and families steward their resources with wisdom and integrity. In retirement, Jack found joy in the land he cherished. He spent his days clearing timber, building rock walls by hand, and overseeing the construction of a log cabin on their Spring Hill property. The farm became both his sanctuary and his ongoing project, a living expression of his perseverance and love of hard work.
Jack was also a gifted and accomplished student. He played varsity tennis for three years, competed as a singer, and was a member of the Madrigal Ensemble. His love for music earned him a first-place state award for solo singing, a talent that brought joy to those who heard him. The family extends a special thank you to his son, David, daughter Debbie, and her husband Alex, for the extraordinary care, time, and compassion they gave to Jack and Joanne in recent years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Vineyard Community Church, 8301 Lamar Ave, Overland Park, Kansas 66207.
