James Lawrence Frans

December 10, 1936 — March 15, 2026

Leawood

James Lawrence Frans, age 89, passed away peacefully on March 15th, 2026. Jim was born December 10th, 1936. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Marilyn Frans and his mother, Maxine Engle.

Jim is survived by his two daughters, Jill Youtsey (Phil) and Mendy Donnelly (Mark). He was a proud grandfather to Matt Youtsey (Amanda), Timothy Youtsey, Samantha Youtsey, Taylor Donnelly, and Zack Donnelly (Corrine). Jim was also blessed with great-grandchildren; Raelyn (Tim), Miller and Anderson (Matt), Callahan (Taylor), and Heidi and Whit (Zack), all who brought him great pride and joy.

Jim attended North Kansas City High School, graduating in 1954. During his time there, he excelled on the football field, helping lead the Hornets to a 10-1 record his senior year. His outstanding play earned him recognition across the state, and he was voted to the All-State team as a wide receiver known for having some of the best hands in Missouri.

After graduation, Jim proudly served in the United States Navy, where he trained as a medic. Following his military service he began his career with Beneficial Finance Corporation as an entry-level consumer loan processor. Through unmatched work ethic, sharp intelligence, and a personable leadership style, Jim steadily rose through the company ranks. His ability to build strong teams, connect with people, and successfully lead operations resulted in multiple promotions and relocations for his family-from North Kansas City to Omaha, Nebraska; Fort Lauderdale and Tampa, Florida and ultimately back to Kansas City. He concluded his distinguished career as Vice President of the midwest region. Jim was truly an American success story, rising from very humble beginnings to leading entire divisions of a national company.
Jim embraced life fully. He was an avid reader, enjoyed a sly and competitive game of cards, and spent many happy years traveling the country with Marilyn and close friends after retirement. He loved the game of golf and enjoyed competing with his group of friends -- often alongside Marilyn.

Sundays in the fall were reserved for cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium, where Jim earned a reputation as one of the best "armchair quarterbacks." He also gave back to his community through years of volunteering for Meals on Wheels in Overland Park.

A life more than well lived, Jim will be remembered for his strong moral character, honesty, tireless work ethic, and a deep devotion to his family. His legacy will live on through generations he inspired and loved so dearly.
