Mrs. Jean Mutert

November 11, 1926 — March 28, 2007

Jean Marie Carroll Mutert, age 80, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at Garden Terrace of Overland Park, Kansas.

Born November 11, 1926, in Grant City, MO, to Volley and Mary Jane (Gloekler) Carroll, Jean grew up in Athelstan, IA, and St. Joseph, MO. Jean graduated from St. Joseph Central High School in 1944, where she was among the Top Ten of her class. Jean was a long-time member of the Roeland Park United Methodist Church, where she was active in Martha Circle and where she particularly enjoyed teaching Junior Church and Bible School. That Jean had so much fun working with children was no surprise to her own children, David and Lisa, who benefited immeasurably from her love, care, and good humor. Jean had a number of hobbies, but she especially liked to garden and to quilt.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Donald and Robert; a sister, Florence; and a son, Brian. Survivors include the love of her life and husband of 52 years, Floyd (Mission, KS); son David and wife Leigh (Prairie Village, KS); daughter Lisa Shea and husband Chris (Mission, KS); grandchildren Emilie, Andrew, and Theodore Mutert and Christopher, Amy, and Brendan Shea; brother A.V. Carroll and wife Annabelle (Smithville, MO); sister AvaDean Schum and husband Jim (Clarinda, IA); and many nieces and nephews.

The family is particularly thankful for the devoted, loving care received from the staff of the Garden Terrace of Overland Park, where Jean had lived since the fall of 1998.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to a local or the national Alzheimer's Association.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 31, 10:00 AM, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Visitation will be at 9:00 AM prior to the service. Internment will be at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Overland Park, KS.
