Jeannine Fischer Linder

Jeannine Fischer Linder passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at the age of 89 in Olathe, Kansas, after a sharp decline in health. Jeannine was born on February 8, 1937, in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Carl Henry and Ruth (Richards) Fischer. She spent her early years in Ashland, Nebraska. After a tragic car accident took the lives of her parents, Jeannine and her younger sister Judy were raised in Omaha by relatives Herb and Margaret Lawder.

Jeannine graduated from Central High School in 1955 where she played cello in the orchestra and clarinet in the marching band as well as sang in the choir. After high school, she attended nurses training at the Immanuel Deaconess Institute in Omaha graduating as a registered nurse in 1958.

Jeannine met her husband of 65 years, Walter Linder, on a blind date at a concert and dance at Peony Park in Omaha, Nebraska. They were married a year later on August 9, 1958, shortly after Jeannine’s graduation from nursing school and moved to California. Jeannine worked as a surgical nurse at Alta Bates Hospital while Walt completed his Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley.

Walt and Jeannine returned to Omaha in 1960 to raise their two children – a son followed by a daughter. Jeannine continued to work part time at Immanuel Hospital until 1963. Walt and Jeannine moved to the Kansas City area in 1973 when Walt took a transfer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. When her children were older, Jeannine returned to work as a pediatric office nurse in Overland Park, Kansas, for 13 years.

Jeannine was an active volunteer in her children’s activities serving as a Cub Scout leader, Girl Scout leader, sponsor of the cheerleading squad, and PTA member. She enjoyed a good or bad day on the golf course and bowled in a weekly league often leading her team’s shenanigans. She pitched a mean game of softball on the neighborhood ladies’ team and hosted many games of bridge at her home. She loved a good novel and a daily crossword puzzle.

Jeannine was deeply rooted in her faith and could witness to anyone – she never met a stranger. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Prairie Village, Kansas, where she was active in choral and bell choirs, Rachel Circle, and prayer ministry. She taught Sunday School and served as the Christian Education Director. She later was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church in Overland Park, Kansas, where she sang in the choir and led several Bible studies. She was also a discussion leader in a community Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) group.

Walt and Jeannine moved to Aberdeen Village retirement community in 2021 where Jeannine cared for Walt (still the nurse in her later years) until he entered long-term care. Jeannine continued to participate in Bible studies and chapel services with her Aberdeen community.

Jeannine was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Judith King, her husband Walter Linder, and great-granddaughter Mae Elene Mueting. She is survived by her son David Linder and his wife Rhonda Boger-Linder of Colorado Springs, Colorado; daughter Dianne Honomichl and her husband Kevin of De Soto, Kansas; granddaughter Hannah Mueting and her husband James of Monument, Colorado; grandson Zach Linder and his wife Bethany Brewer of Fort Lupton, Colorado; grandson Mikolas Honomichl of De Soto, Kansas; and great-grandsons Whitt and Abe Mueting of Monument, Colorado.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Atonement Lutheran Church, 9948 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, Kansas 66212. The service will be preceded by a visitation at 9:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Atonement Lutheran Church or Aberdeen Village (PMMA Good Samaritan Program), 17500 W 119th St, Olathe, Kansas 66061.
