Jeffery “Scott” Richardson, 57, of Overland Park, Kansas died peacefully on August 29, 2022. Scott went home to be with his heavenly Father and those that preceded him in death including his Father, Ellis, who passed away in 2021 and his Mother, Judy, who passed away in 1970, when Scott was only five years old. Both deaths caused Scott great pain during his life.
Scott was born September 8, 1964 in Fort Hood/Killeen, Texas to Ellis Ray Richardson and Judith Ann (Gregory) Richardson of Mission, Kansas. Scott played soccer for Shawnee Mission West High School and graduated in 1982. Scott also loved playing baseball in the 8&11 league with his closest, lifetime friends, and band of brothers from high school: Dave Prohaska, Mark Penny, Larry Selk, and Alan Barnes. Following graduation, Scott attended a local Business College where he studied Information Technology.
After achieving an Associate’s Degree, Scott went to work for Sprint, which was then located in Gardner/New Century Air Center, Kansas. Scott moved on and became employed by Gentiva Health Services in Overland Park, Kansas. Due to downsizing and outsourcing of jobs, Scott left Gentiva Health Services. Scott struggled to find to find employment during the COVID pandemic and decided to semi-retire.
Scott is preceded in death by his parents Ellis and Judith (Gregory) Richardson, his sister Lorrie Ann Richardson, his paternal grandparents Derward “Dub” and Ida (Stokes) Richardson, his maternal grandparents William “Bill” and Mildred “Midge” Gregory, his paternal uncle, Peter Thornton, and cousin Michael “Mike” Gregory.
Scott is survived by his brother and sister-in-law David and Ann (Huhman) Richardson; his paternal aunt, Cherry (Richardson) Thornton, his maternal aunt, Diane (Gregory) and Marty Tiefert, his maternal uncle, William “Bill” Gregory, his step-mother Linda (Potter) Richardson, his step-sisters Dennis and Tysha (Potter) VanBeceleare, , and Vince and Polly (Potter) Daniels; his cousins Brian and Kate Moffett, Megan Moffett, Sam and Ginger (Gregory) Silverman, and his six nephews and nieces, Jesse Niebaum, Samantha Cicero, Tye Cicero, Xander VanBeceleare, Reese Richardson, and Jonah Richardson.
Scott was an avid Kansas City Royals and Chiefs fan. Scott enjoyed the annual Air Shows, collected many things including but not limited to: coins, stamps, baseball cards, autographs, and NFL memorabilia.
Scott was remembered as a good-humored jokester, who could always find the perfect and humorous birthday cards. He was loved by many and will be missed.
A private family graveside funeral service will occur on Friday, September 16, 2022 at 11:00 am at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be in made in Scott Richardson’s memory to Smile Train or Operation Smile , helping children worldwide with cleft lips and palates.
