Jill Elizabeth Wall

May 10, 1944 — December 18, 2024

Prairie Village, KS

Jill Churchman Wall, of Prairie Village, KS, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024, at St. Luke's South Hospital after a long and courageous battle with COPD. She was 80 years old.

Born on May 10, 1944, to Jerome and Gretchen Churchman in Santa Fe, NM, Jill was a devoted daughter and mother and a loving sister to her 2 brothers. Her family relocated to Kansas City during her early childhood—a move that profoundly shaped her future, influencing her family, lifelong friendships, and career, all of which she cherished throughout her life.

Jill was proud of her Catholic faith and education. She attended Visitation Grade School, St. Teresa’s Academy High School, and earned a teaching degree from Avila College. During her school years, Jill cultivated lasting friendships, especially with her STA classmates. Their camaraderie, unwavering support, and shared adventures remained treasured aspects of her life.

Jill began her career as a grade schoolteacher, but her professional path flourished in the banking industry at Capitol Federal Savings Bank. Over the years, she advanced to the role of Vice President Branch Manager, retiring in 2011 after 17 years of dedicated service. Jill’s career not only brought her professional fulfillment but also introduced her to a community of colleagues and customers who became lifelong friends.

In 2004, Jill married Dan Wall, reconnecting after their early years together at Visitation Grade School. They shared 20 years of marriage, creating countless cherished memories with family and friends. Jill, united with Dan by their shared Irish heritage, had a deep love for all things Irish. A true animal lover, she was a wonderful dog mom to Lucky and Maisy.

Jill was preceded in death by her parents, Jerome and Gretchen Churchman, and brother Bob Burdick.. She is survived by her husband Dan Wall, daughter Shelly Pontello, son Billy Pontello, brother Pete Churchman, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Jill deeply appreciated the people in her life, often expressing gratitude for the kindness and warmth she received. She considered her life full of blessings, even during her most challenging times. Her joyful sense of humor was forever present and endeared her to all who meet her.

In her final years, Jill received exceptional care from the compassionate teams at St. Luke's South Hospital and Internal Medicine group, Merriam Gardens, and Homestead Estates of Leawood. Jill’s warmth and appreciation for her caregivers earned her the title of “Fan Favorite” among the staff at St. Luke’s South Hospital. Her unwavering positivity, even in difficult moments, was a testament to her faith and love for those around her.

A celebration of Jill’s life will take place on January 11, 2025, at Cure of Ars Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. A luncheon will be held afterward to honor and remember her.
