John Wesley Carter, 88 of Overland Park, KS passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026, at Research Medical Center.
Born on Feb. 15, 1938, in Iantha, MO, he grew up in Mindenmines, MO and Pittsburg, KS.
He enjoyed a 67-year long career at Rylie Equipment and Contracting. He was President from 1999-2002, followed by CEO from 2002-2021 and stayed on the Board of Directors until 2024.
Also known as “Hollywood,” he enjoyed playing golf, riding motorcycles, car races, and staying busy.
He is survived by his wife of seventy years, Pattie S. Carter, son Dan Carter (Lori), daughter Patsy Crystal (Tom Giambrone), grandchildren: Patrick Carter, Tammy McDonald, Samantha Newman, Matt Crystal, 8 great grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents George Washington and Hazel Carter and granddaughter Cecilia Carter.
A visitation will be held on June 26th at 1 PM, funeral service at 2 PM, burial service at 3PM, followed by a reception at Johnson County Funeral Chapel and Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66210.
