John Yelvington

February 16, 1939 — July 12, 2020

Overland Park, Kansas

John Huston Yelvington, Jr., 81

John was born on February 16, 1939, in Springfield, Missouri.  He graduated from Central High School in Springfield, Missouri, then went on to serve in the U.S. Navy until he was honorably discharged in 1966.  After the Navy, he worked for Chrysler Motor Plant in Detroit, Michigan.  He spent most of his career working for the railroad, working for Illinois Central Gulf, Frisco, and Burlington Northern before retiring. Serving in the Navy and working for the railroad were his two loves.

He was preceded in death by his wife of forty-one years, Trudy Yelvington. He is survived by his three daughters, Sheryl McAtee, Debra George, and Becky Yelvington; his two sons-in-law, Dean McAtee and Mark George; and his four grandchildren, Brandon and Haley McAtee, and Megan and Ian George. John was an only child but appreciated his wife's siblings who always showed him love and concern, Bernie and Cathie Toton, Pat Malczewski, and Irene Toton.

Those who knew John know he loved his family, his friends, and his neighbors. In his younger years he loved playing all sports. He always loved the outdoors, being with his grandkids, working in his woodshop, and helping others.

There will be no visitation. However, John would appreciate donations in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association.
