Judith E. Van der Merwe

Judith Ellen van der Merwe, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Saturday, November 13, 2021 at the age of 53 surrounded by family.  Judy is survived by her husband, Dave; her son, Marcel; her daughter, Chloe; and her sisters, Eurika and Janine.

Judy was born in Johannesburg, South Africa on December 21, 1967 to Jan and Claudette Gouws.  She graduated from Nelspruit High School and attended the University of Pretoria to study Education.  She worked as a legal aide, travel agent and homemaker.

On March 18, 1989, she married Dave in Pretoria, South Africa.  On December 17, 1993 and February 3, 2000 respectively, she and Dave welcomed her two children, who were the most important part of her life.  She immigrated to the United States with her family in October of 1998.

Judy was a devoted mother, wife and friend to all who knew her.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and travel.  She was best known among her friends and family as a social person who valued connection, conversation, and offering advice.  Judy was steadfast in her convictions and generous with compassion.  She will be deeply missed by her friends, family, and all who knew her.

A visitation will be held Friday, November 19, 2021 from 11:00 am, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 12:00 p.m. at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66210.  Pastor Ryan Kapple will officiate.
