Kitty Lou Shrum was born April 7, 1961 to parents David Walter Carpenter and Wilma Lou Carpenter in Nevada, Missouri. She grew up on a farm in Deerfield, Missouri and attended schools in Nevada, Missouri graduating in 1979. She started her employment career at Western Insurance Company in Fort Scott, Kansas in the claims department. She met her future husband Brad there, and they married on May 1, 1982 at Pine Street Baptist Church in Nevada. She and her husband moved to Overland Park/Stanley, Kansas in July of 1986. She worked various positions over the years, most recently as a business office manager at Lamar Court Senior Living.
Kitty loved family above all else, and was a prolific seamstress and crocheter. Her works are spread throughout the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Overland Park, Kansas and Blue Valley area since August 1986 and is considered the Tabitha of the Church.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Brad of the home, two sons, Cody and his wife Jennifer of Olathe, KS and Brian and his wife Brooklyn of Overland Park, two grandchildren, Lydia Lee Shrum and Ezra Jonathan Shrum of Olathe, who were everything to her and “Me-Maw”, plus various nephews and nieces, aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father as well as a brother David, and two children she never met until Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
