Larry Gava

Larry was born in Wichita, Kansas to Dominic and Dena Haskins Gava on October 7, 1944. Larry moved from Wichita to DeSoto, KS in 1958.He graduated from Desoto High School in 1962.

In 1964, he married Charlotte Derendinger. Charlotte died in 2002.  Larry was a veteran and and was honorably discharged from the Army in 1972.  He retired from Delco Battery, a division of General Motors after 30 years.  Larry moved to Gardner in 1999. Larry had a 17 year relationship with Linda Donnici, until she passed away.  

He was a huge Chiefs and the Royals fan. He enjoyed traveling, trying out different restaurants, taste testing different flavors of ice cream, and visiting the casinos.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Donna.

He is survived by his significant other, Sharon Young, two sisters, Doma Gava, and Cheri Budai, a half brother, Michael Gava, his 3 nephews, and 3 great nephews and 1 great niece.

Larry will always be known for his sense of humor, his fun personality, his caring for others, and his loyalty to his friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, on August 22, 2026. Visitation will be at 10:30 am. The service will be at 11:00 am. He had a special place in his heart for St. Jude Hospital. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be given to St. Jude, or the American Cancer Society.
