Lela Steen

Lela M. Steen, 92, a resident of Olathe, KS, died at home with her daughter and son-in-law, Sue & George Hardage by her side, on April 26.

Mrs. Steen was born July 22, 1914 in Wesson, MS and was a long time resident of Jackson, MS., where she was a member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church and retired from the MS State Board of Health Department, as a lab technician. Mrs. Steen was a devoted Christian wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

She was preceded in death by three husbands, Grady Rogers, Richard Dorris and H.V. ?Red? Steen all of MS, her son Curtis Rogers, of NC and her stepson Richard L Dorris, Jr of MS.

She was a wonderful Christian servant that gave her time, prayers, and love to all who knew her. She enjoyed family, her beautiful flower garden, visiting with friends and neighbors, but most especially worshiping her Lord.

Mrs. Steen is survived by Sue & George Hardage, daughter & son-in-law (KS), David & Nancy Dorris, son & daughter-in-law (KS), 10 grandchildren, Chip Hardage (KS), Sally Garland (MS), Tracey Wilson (AL), Beth Kirkman (NC) Amy Sargent (NC) Andy Rogers (NC), Danielle Shirley(KS), Kelly Dorris (KS), Matthew Dorris (KS), Scott Dorris (KS) and 2 step-grandson?s, Richard & Carl Dorris (MS), 8 great grandchildren, and Walter & Mildred Miller, brother and sister-in-law (CO).

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, April 28 at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS at 2:00 pm with visitation one-hour prior, with College Church of the Nazarene and The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection officiating. A Grave Side Service will be held on Saturday, May 5 at 2:00 pm at Lakewood Memorial Cemetery, in Jackson, MS with Rev. Tyler Pigott officiating.

We sing praises to our Lord for the wonderful memories of this Special Gift from God, our Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Friend! We will miss her so much, but will anxiously await the day when we can join her in heaven.
