Mamie Bayless

Mamie Edna Bayless, 96, passed away peacefully at her home in Overland Park, Kansas on October 24, 2022. She was born in Lexington, Kentucky on May 15th, 1926 to Oscar and Katherine Wilson. Mamie graduated from Dunbar High School in Lexington, Kentucky in 1944. After high school Mamie moved to Washington D.C to work as a secretary for the government and attended classes at Howard University.

She married Harvey Bayless in 1945, they lived in Rome, New York for 25 years until they were transferred to Missouri with Harvey’s job as an electronic engineer with the government. They settled in Overland Park, Kansas in 1970.  Mamie was a member of Valley View United Methodist Church and the Shawnee Mission Women’s Chorale Group. Mamie loved music and traveling, especially going on many cruises with her beloved Harvey.

She was predeceased by her husband Harvey A. Bayless and son Roderick Bayless. Survivors include daughter Kathleen Bayless and son-in-law Michael Jenkins, grandchildren Matthew Jenkins and Taylor Jenkins, along with numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Private gravesite service will be held November 3rd at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens, Shawnee, Kansas.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be donated to Catholic Community Hospice .
