Marge Mehlin, 73, passed away peacefully October 8, 2014, with her family by her side, following a short battle against Mesothelioma.
Marge is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 51 years, John Mehlin; a daughter Lori and her husband, Clint McWhorter, of Overland Park, KS; a son Jeff and his wife, Jana Mehlin of Overland Park, KS. She was a proud and doting grandma to five grandkids: Lindsey Mehlin, Nick Mehlin, Jackson Mehlin, Ashton McWhorter and Noah McWhorter. Nothing meant more to her than her family; they were the center of her life 24/7. Also left to mourn her absence are her sister, Lorna and husband, Dann Ropson, Luxemburg, WI; sisters-in-law, Mary Mehlin and Becky Noel, Green Bay, WI; cousin and sister by love, Judy and husband, Mark Steiner, Luxemberg, WI; niece and God Daughter, Tammy Bryfczynski, Howard, WI; and nephew, Rick Ropson, Luxemberg, WI. Marge was preceeded in death by her parents, Lorenz and Leora Detjen, and a sister, Darlene.
Marge was born in Algoma, Wisconsin, and resided there until she and John married in 1963 at which time they relocated to Rockford, IL. In 1975 they moved to the Overland Park/Leawood area where they have made their home since. After retiring from Pro Business Printing, which Marge and John owned and operated for 21 years, Marge had many passions to keep her busy. She was able to devote more volunteer time to church activities, eventually becoming a Stephen Minister. If she wasn't at church or home you could find her at Country Club of Leawood Golf Course playing golf with the 18 Hole Ladies Group. In the winter, Marge and John would take up residence in Palm Desert, CA to enjoy a winter full of golf and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2014, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 9101 Lamar Ave., Overland Park, KS. Visitation with the family will begin at 9:00 a.m. with service at 11:00. Reception immediately following. At 4:30 p.m. a casual inurnment service will be held at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS.
The family would like to thank all their friends for the outpouring of love that Marge received in her final days. They would also like to thank Dr. Richard McKittrick, Kansas City Cancer Center; Dr. Richard Morgan and the many medical professionals she came in contact with at St. Joseph Hospital; Dr. Hedy Kindler and staff at the University of Chicago Medical Center. An enormous heart felt thanks is also extended to the compassionate nurses at the Kansas City Hospice House. Marge received great comfort from all of her medical providers over the past few months; she often commented that she felt like she was being treated as a family member.
