Mary Louise Grant

July 5, 1951 — November 7, 2025

Eudora

Mary Louise Grant (born Wettstein) passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, Kansas, surrounded by her loving children. She was 74 years old.

Mary was born on July 5, 1951, in Fulda, Minnesota, to Joseph and Deneice Wettstein. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to South Dakota, where Mary grew up in a warm and caring home alongside her parents, older brother Joseph Jr., sisters Kathleen and Barbara, and their beloved Boxer, Duke.

Mary graduated from Shawnee Mission South High School in 1969 and continued her education at Kansas State University, where she met her first husband. Together, they raised two children, Glen and Jennifer, in Overland Park, Kansas. After their divorce, Mary dedicated herself to her career, working in various roles before joining Dr. Jew at Menorah Medical Center and later finishing her career at the University of Kansas Health System.

Mary remarried twice, and in 2009, she joyfully reunited with her high school sweetheart, Scott Grant. They shared a beautiful life together until Scott’s passing in 2013. Mary retired in 2022 due to early-onset dementia and spent her final two years in a memory care facility in Eudora, Kansas.

Mary’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her son Glen Nelson (wife Kaila), daughter Jennifer Nelson (Alex), 10 grandchildren—Chelsea McMullen, Amber Moore (Nicholas), Lane Nelson (Kailey), Paige Nelson, Tanner Delaney (Shae), Kate Delaney, Kieran Delaney, Bryn Delaney, Brian Delaney, and Ella Mock—two great-grandchildren, Elaina and Elise; sisters Kathleen Reeve and Barbara Casey (John); honorary sister Connie Ziegler (Chuck); and many nieces, nephews, friends, and coworkers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Deneice Wettstein; brother Joe; and beloved pets Lilly and Christmas.

Mary loved cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs, watching golf, and listening to George Strait, Ed Sheeran, and Michael Bublé. She enjoyed life’s simple pleasures—wine, margaritas, Bud Light, Diet Coke, Minsky’s pizza, quesadillas, baby Snickers, Oreo Thins, blueberries, and French silk pie from Tippins. Above all, Mary treasured time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were her proudest accomplishments.

Mary will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those she loved.
