Myrtle Ahlstrom, loving mother of three sons and adoring wife to husband Fred, gained her wings peacefully at the age of 96 on Tuesday, June 6. Myrtle was born in 1926 Bedminster, PA to G. Harold and E. Leah (Jones) Furness. She met Fred Ahlstrom while he was serving at Ft. Dix, NJ and they were married 59 years until his passing in 2007. Myrtle was a loving mother to sons John, David, and Dan. She played the piano and organ, and was a member of the choir in her Lutheran Church for many years. She loved the many hours she spent playing pinochle with her parents, brothers and sons.
Myrtle is survived by sons John, Topeka, KS; David (Cathy), Olathe, KS; Dan (Selah), Jackson, GA and grandchildren Sandy (Nick) Parker, Charity Connors, Amber Henry, Adam Ahlstrom, Leah (Tim) Moyer, Jenny (A. J.) Treser, and D.J. (Randi) Ahlstrom and great-grandchildren Alexie and Colton Parker, Dylan and Blake Connors, Adelyn Campbell, and Aleigha and Colton Ahlstrom. She is also survived by brothers Ralph Furness, Lancaster, CA and Clyde (Debbie) Furness, Conway, SC.
Services will be held at a later date in Jackson, GA with burial in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Milledgeville, GA. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to the Alzheimers Association.
