Nancy Sue Kinney passed away peacefully on June 29th , leaving behind a life defined by kindness, quiet strength, and a deep devotion to her family and community. Sue was a woman of grace and determination-someone who made others feel welcome, valued, and at easy simply by being herself.
Sue had a remarkably strong work ethic, approaching every job or task with integrity, dedication, and a high personal standard. She believed in doing things the right way and she carried that belief into every role she held. As a mother, she became a powerful mentor to her children, teaching them by example. Her standards, morals and sense of responsibility live on in them – and fortunately for the rest of us, in everyone whose lives she touched.
Nancy Sue was preceded in death by her parents, C.B. Kinell II and Deloris Marie Kinell, and by her brother Carl Kinell III.
Beyond her work and family, Sue was an active and cherished member of the Leawood Women’s Club, where she built lasting friendships and contributed her time and talent with enthusiasm. She especially enjoyed her involvement in the club’s Gourmet Group, a close-knit circle of six couples who gathered monthly to share their extraordinary culinary skills. Sue was perhaps the premier chef of the group, never disappointing her friends with her creativity and the fabulous meals she prepared.
She loved playing bridge and was known as an excellent, thoughtful, and strategic player, approaching the game with skill and joy.
Sue also had a love for travel. She found great happiness exploring the country in here private motorcoach, especially trips to Colorado and the American Southwest, where open skies and beautiful landscapes brought her delight.
One of Sue’s greatest joys was watching her grandchildren grow. She never missed a game cheering proudly from the stands as Jessica played volleyball and Eric played Baskerball. Their accomplishments brought her quiet pride, and her unwavering presence in their lives was a gift they will carry forever.
On a lighter note-and with a smile-those who knew Nancy Sue are certain she is now reunited in heaven with her three beloved miniature poodles, each raised at different times and each with a personality all their own: Candy, a 5 pound terror and devoted mother of two adorable Peekaboo litters; Honey I, whose nearly human intelligence kept everyone on their toes; and Honey II, the most athletic of the trio. They brought her endless companionship and joy.
Nancy Sue is survived by her Husband, Ohler L Kinney, Jr., three children – Saundra Sue Rodriguez, Michael Dean Kinney, and Barbara Lynn Kinney-Matt, who will forever carry her love and teachings in their hearts. Sue is also survived by two grandchildren, John Eric Rodriguez and Jessica Lynn Rodriguez, who brought her endless joy and whom she adored.
Sue’s warmth, generosity, and steady presence will be profoundly missed by all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the memories she created, and the love and values she passed on.
