Nancy Lynn Post

December 22, 1953 — May 22, 2023

Lenexa

Nancy Lynn Post was born December 22, 1954 at the Methodist Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa.  She attended Sunnyside Elementary School in Sioux City, IA.

In 1962, Armour &  Company closed down their packing plant in Sioux City.   The family moved to Overland Park, KS where her father took over running the Accounting Department at the Armour Plant in Kansas City .

Nancy attended grade school and junior high school in Overland Park, KS and graduated in 1972 from Shawnee Mission West High School.  She went on to obtain her Bachelor and Master Degrees, in Art and Education, from Kansas University in Lawrence, KS.

Nancy started her career teaching art at an elementary school, in the Shawnee Mission School District, but left teaching when she was offered a job as card designer for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, MO.  She retired from Hallmark after 27 years of service.

In 1988, Nancy experienced kidney failure and received a kidney transplant from a young man in the Kansas City area.  She lived with the transplant for 35 years.

Because of the transplant she became extremely involved in The Gift of Life Program in the Kansas City area.  She spoke to many different groups about the kidney and her life with a transplant.

For years, in her spare time, she created over thirty beautiful 12 inch glass covered Christmas trees, all made by hand.  Many of the trees were donated to her kidney doctor’s office as a fund raiser for the Kidney Foundation.

Nancy, also, was very talented at painting large pictures of outdoor settings and making jewelry with copper wire and gem stones.

Nancy was preceded in death by her mother, Arline Post, and her father, Hank Post.

Nancy’s surviving family members includes her brother, Ron Post, her sister-in-law, Marilyn Post; brother-in-law, Fred Hartman;  her niece, Heather Sickel, Heather’s husband, Jason, and their daughter, Lillian.  She is also survived by her beloved dog, Izzy.
