Nancy Ann Smith

Nancy Ann Walker Smith entered the Kingdom of Heaven in the warm embrace of her Savior, Jesus Christ on July 19, 2025. She was a resident of Kingswood Senior Living Community in Kansas City, Missouri.

Nancy was born February 9, 1933. She met Alfred O. Smith, Jr. at a carnival when Al’s sister pushed him into the seat next to Nancy on the Ferris Wheel. The rest is history. She married the love of her life on March 1, 1951, and they had 58 wonderful years together. Al predeceased Nancy in 2007.

Nancy found deep fulfillment in her 28-year career at Sunset Hill teaching pre-K children, where she impacted many lives and families. She loved being a minister’s wife, updating every parsonage in which they lived, and working tirelessly alongside Al during his 43 years of ministry. Nancy and Al served a host of churches in the Kansas City and Springfield areas, the longest being Country Club United Methodist Church from 1970 to1983. She thoroughly enjoyed the many friendships she made in each church.

She loved her bridge group, her membership in PEO (she was a 50-year pin) as well as the Cursillo community, whose retreat helped her “make her faith her own.” Her Cursillo reunion group met for more than 50 years. She volunteered at Della C. Lamb, The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures and the St. Luke’s Hospital in the heart waiting room. Nancy has been an active member of Country Club United Methodist Church for the last two decades, where she continued to grow in her faith and faithfully served on the Care Team, the Hospitality Team, hosting Bible studies, the Prayer Team, and was an active member of the Disciple’s Sunday School Class.

Nancy stayed very active through the years and enjoyed her friends at Kingswood, Jazzercise, and her senior exercise classes.

Nancy loved her family dearly and nothing gave her more pleasure than having all of them together. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Hubert B. and Lois Carter Walker, her husband, Al Smith, and son-in-law, John (Jeb) Blake. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Stan (Jean) Smith, Susie (Tim) Rupp, Terri (Jeb) Blake, and Tim (Giovanna) Smith. She also has 9 grandchildren: Matthew (Sarah) Smith, Meredith (Nathan) Owings, Megan Rupp, Josh (Ashley) Rupp and Kyle (Leslie) Rupp, Brandon Blake, Ben (Cassie) Blake, Luke Smith and Mattie Smith. Nancy also has 16 great grandchildren: Emma, John, Jack, Anna, Luke and Ava Smith; Parker, Andrew, and Carson Owings, Logan Rupp, Leah Rupp and baby due in September; Bethany and Haleigh Blake, John Rogers and Antitan Hesser. Nancy is also survived by her brother, Joe Walker (Mary), who currently resides in Georgia, plus numerous nieces and nephews.
