Norene Nelle Mealman, 103, a former teacher, homemaker and mother in Kansas City, Kansas, died April 17, 2025 in Paradise Valley, Arizona.
Mrs. Mealman was born near Odessa, Missouri. She received a B.S. in Education at Central Missouri State University and a Master's Degree from the University of Missouri, Kansas City. She began her teachingcareer int h eRural Schools of Johnson County Missouri. Later she taught in the Warrensburg, Missouri Public Schools. After her marriage to Harold E. Mealman, she taught for 23 years inthe Kansas City, Kansas Elementary Schools at L. M. Alcott, Eugene Ware, and John F. Kennedy.
She was a member of Central Christian Church of Kansas City, Kansas and its Advancers Class, the ChristianWomen's Fellowship and Lydia Circle. For many years she taught in the church Sunday School. She served as Elder on the church board and served as chairman of numerous departments. Later she was active at White Church Community Church.
She belonged to the Gladiola Chapter Eastern Starwhere she served as Worthy Matron in 1965 and District Aide in 1972. During the years her children were in school, she was active in the P.T.A. serving as president at William Allen White Elementary School.
In retirement, she belonged to theKansas City, KansasArea Retired Teachers and was active at Victory Hills Golden Age. After her husband died, she volunteered at the Presbyterian Manner Care Home gift shop.
Survivors include her daughter, Carole SueAlford, Sunnyvale, California, son, Terence L. Mealman, Paradise Valley, Arizona, six grandchildren: Angela Burdick, Terre Haute, IN, Charity Anderson, Waco, TX, Jonathan Mealman, Phoenix, AZ,Alexandra Mealman, Paradise Valley, AZ, Benjamin Alford, Sunnyvale, CA, Kristina Curnow,Fallbrook, CA, and 8 great grandchildren: Blythe Burdick, KatelynBurdick, Anna Burdickand Sophia Burdickof Terre Haute, IN, Nora Mealman and Wesley Mealman of Phoenix, AZ, Ayla Curnow and Mylo Curnow of Fallbrook, CA.
She is predeceased by her husband, Harold E. Mealman and granddaughter, Tiffany Mealman.
Services will be held at the Johnson County Funeral Chapel on May 1, 2025 at 10:00 am. Visitation at the Chapel at 9:00 am
Norene requested that in lieu of flowers, Memorial gifts be given to White Church Christian Church, 2200 North 85th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66109.
