Mr. Norm Handlan

November 14, 1947 — December 31, 2006

Norm Handlan 59, Overland Park, KS finished his course on Sunday December 31, 2006 and is now with his Lord at the nineteenth hole.

Norm was born in Saint Louis, Missouri and graduated from Kirkwood High School in 1966. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1967 until 1971, when he moved to Kansas City. He began his 35-year career in electrical sales in 1971. In 1975 he met the love of his life, Pam Caulk, they married in November 1976. In the mid 1980s, he took a brief hiatus from his sales career to fulfill his lifelong dream to own and operate a bar and grill called Handlan?s on Main Street near the Plaza

Norm was an excellent athlete. During his formative years in high school, Norm excelled in track and football. Later he found a new sport passion, Rugby, which he played for many years at a high amateur level. He was a member of the Kansas City Rugby Football Club, the River Quay Football Club and the Kansas City Blues Football Club. Upon his retirement from Rugby, Norm concentrated on honing his golf skills eventually attaining single digit handicap status during his prime. Norm was also an avid sports fan with particular passion for his hometown St. Louis Cardinals, Missouri Tigers and any golf tournament on TV. The Masters Golf Tournament was his favorite.

His parents Bud and Lucille Handlan and his sister Diane Smith precede Norm in death. His wife of 30 years, Pam, his sister Sharon (Ken) Breier, brothers Tim (Mary Lynn) Handlan, Mark (Twila Wayne) Handlan, and Kevin (Kathy Parsons) Handlan, brother in law Tim Smith and numerous other sisters in law, brothers in law, nieces, nephews, and many friends survive him.

A Celebration of his life will be 10:00 AM Thursday January 4 at the Presbyterian Church of Stanley 14895 Antioch. Visitation will be Wednesday January 3rd from 6:00PM ? 8PM at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Johnson County Chapel 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to The American Cancer Society.
