Patti Whitaker

January 30, 1946 — April 18, 2024

Overland Park

Patricia Anne Veatch Whitaker (Patti) passed away unexpectedly on April 18, 2024.

Patti was born on January 30, 1946, in Raytown, MO to Irving and Dorothy Veatch.  After graduating from Raytown South High School in 1964, she married her high school sweetheart in 1966.  Together, he and Patti raised two daughters while working and finishing their college degrees.

In 1976, Patti graduated from UMKC with a degree In Education.  She taught Geometry and Honors Math for 8 years at Meadowbrook Junior High, then spent four years at Missouri Public Service (Utility) Company developing their first-ever computer training program. Following that, she moved to Sprint Corporation, where she established and built their computer training department into a respected group of 24 developers/trainers. Patti spent 13 years at Sprint, then started a photo-restoration business from her home.

Meanwhile, she pursued her passions for golf, bridge, Mahjongg, singing, reading, and being with family & friends. She was a never-wavering fan of the KC Royals and KC Chiefs!

Despite being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at age 39, Patti maintained the most glass-half-full approach to life. Whenever MS would take away the ability to do something she loved, like golf, she would pivot to another activity like bridge, where she excelled in the competitive world of duplicate bridge. She was a loving, creative, and involved wife, mother of two, grandmother of four, and friend to countless others.

Patti leaves behind her husband of 58 years, Robert Paul Whitaker; two daughters: Dr. Stacy D. Younger (Tony), Shawnee, KS, and Karyn D. Winter (Todd), Shawnee, KS; and four grandchildren: Jason R. Younger, Hendersonville, TN, Ryan D. Younger, Shawnee, KS, Annie E. (Winter) Caldwell, Lenexa, KS, and Maggie M. Winter, Shawnee, KS.

No funeral service is planned.  Donations, if you so desire, can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society at https://www.nationalmssociety.org or to any charity of your choice.
