Randall Vaughn Harris, 73, of Fredonia, Kansas, passed away Friday, July 31, 2026 while a resident at the Spring Hill Care and Rehab Center in Spring Hill, Kansas. He was born November 30, 1953, the son of Hubert and Madge(Morrison) Harris. He had two brothers, Hubert Harris, Jr.(Elizabeth)of Derby, Kansas and Ronald Harris of Pea Ridge, Arkansas(both now deceased).
Randall’s career had been in law enforcement. He grew up around police work as his father had been Sheriff of Wilson County, Fredonia, Kansas for over 17 years and did a brief stint as Chief of Police. In the basement of Randall’s childhood home was the Wilson County Jail. He graduated from Wichita State University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree followed by post-graduate work in criminal/administration of justice. In 1993, Randall became the Assistant Director of Security at the Wichita Greyhound Park. He then joined the Andover Police Department of Andover, Kansas in 1995 and was quickly promoted to Captain. In 1998, he was appointed as Chief of Police where he served until 2008, strongly dedicated to school resourcing, community programs, gang and drug prevention.
In addition to his wife, Deborah, Randall is survived by his daughter, Jessica (Harris) Shipman(husband, Joshua), granddaughter, Charlotte of Olathe, Kansas.
Services will be Friday, August 14th, 10:00 a.m., at Church of the Resurrection-Wesley Chapel 13720 Roe Ave., Leawood, Kansas 66224.
