Dick was the son of the late H. Hunter and Nora R. Murdock of Charleston, West Virginia. He is survived by his wife Lucky Lee of the home, sons David Hunter of Parkersburg, West Virginia, Michael Scott of Kansas City, Missouri, granddaughter Brittany of Tulsa, Oklahoma, grandsons Brandon Lee Hunter of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Chase Hunter of Kansas City, Missouri. Sister Myrna Griffith of Wilmington, North Carolina and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dick began his career in Systems Management with the West Virginia State Tax Commissioner’s Office in the mid 1960’s. After holding several positions, he resigned in 1967 as acting Assistant Director of the Tax Commissioner’s Data Processing Division and moved to Greensburg, Pennsylvania. There he took a position with Overly Manufacturing Company as Data Processing Manager, Dick returned to West Virginia in 1970 and held the position as D.P. Manager with Walker Parkersburg Textron in Parkersburg, West Virginia. While in Parkersburg Dick obtained his certification as a Systems Professional (CSP), served on the Board of Directors and as President of the Ohio Valley Data Processing Management Association, (NMA). Dick received DPMA’s Individual Performance Award and in the 1970’s was a member of Parkersburg Community College, Computer Science Advisory Board. During Dick’s presidency his WMA chapter received NMA’s Excellent, Outstanding, and Superior Awards. After Butler Manufacturing Company, purchased Walker in 1982, Dick became Systems Manager and in 1986 transferred to Butler’s corporate offices in Kansas City, Missouri. Dick was selected by Textron’s Upper Management to attend Textron’s management development Program at Byrant College outside of Boston, Massachusetts. For his hard work as Senior Project Manager he received Butler’s President Award. Since 1986 he and his family made there home in Overland Park, Kansas. After Dick retired from Butler, he and his wife Lucky, in 2001, made their permanent home in Melbourne, Florida. Dick attended numerous systems and management courses during his career. He was a graduate of CHS Class of 1959 and a member of the West Virginia Army Nation Guard Headquarters’ Company. He was a life member of the DAV, a supporter of the HHV-Art and Crafts Kits for hospitalized Veterans, and a member of the American Legion.
Growing up in Charleston, West Virginia, Dick attended Ruffner Presbyterian Church. He and his family became members of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church while residing in Parkersburg, West Virginia.
Proceeded in death by his sister Phyllis Cowley.
