Richard Petty

Richard Douglas Petty, 89, went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 23.

Richard was born December 29, 1932, to Stephen and Julia Petty in Flint, MI.  He wed his first wife, Maxine Sharp, January 3, 1952, and they had four children. In 1982 he married Beverly Akers and was married until his death.  After serving in the Army he attended and graduated from Michigan State University.  He also attended Calvary Bible College.

Richard enjoyed reading and studying biblical studies, teaching Bible classes and sharing his faith with others.

He is predeceased by his parents, his brother John and son-in-law Shawn Swearngin.  He survived by his wife Beverly; his four children, Sheila (Glen) Pannell, Kelly Swearngin, Michael Petty and Stephen Petty; his step-daughter Vicki (George) Miller; his grandchildren, Chris (Manyvohn), Cody (Curtis), Maggie (Luke), Sue (Bryan), Sarah, Angie (Jeff), Jason (Sarah), Chad, Jared (Candis), Cassie (Jake), Katie, Spencer (Kristen), Lexie, Michaela, Christian, Monica (John), Christy (Brad); his great-grandchildren, Mei-Mei, Emma, Lauryn, Rylee, Ashlie, Parker, Lane, Ryder, Brodee, Jenna, Addison, Cooper, Emerson, Lydia, Charlotte, Sage, Ariella, Brecklyn, Austin, Hannah and George; his great-great-grandchildren, Knox and Olivia.

The Celebration of Life will be at 10:00am Tuesday May 3rd at the Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, followed by a graveside service for the family. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Westside Family Church, 8500 Woodsonia Drive, Lenexa, KS 66227.
