Ronald "Ron" Dee Edwards, 82, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away peacefully at home on June 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. His devoted wife, children, and their spouses were at his bedside.
Ron was born on April 14, 1944, in Kansas City, Missouri, and grew up in the Turner area of Kansas City, Kansas. He graduated from Turner High School in 1962 and later earned a bachelor's degree in business.
Immediately after high school, Ron began his career as a machinist with the Rock Island Railroad. Ron was then drafted into the United States Army and proudly served his country. He returned to the Rock Island Railroad after serving in the Army until the Rock Island railroad closed in 1980. Ron continued working in the railroad industry until retiring from Burlington Northern Railway after a long and respected career.
On December 14, 1974, Ron married the love of his life, Cindy. Together they built a life centered on family, memories, laughter, and love, sharing more than 51 years of marriage.
Family was Ron's greatest joy and proudest accomplishment. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He loved traveling, playing cards, attending family gatherings, cheering on his children and grandchildren at their sporting events and activities, playing golf, and going to the gym to see all his friends. Ron was known for his sense of humor, quick wit, and a whole lot of orneriness, and he never met a stranger, enjoying life to the fullest.
Ron is survived by his wife, Cindy; his children and their spouses, Kim (Pat), Tina (Mike), Christi (Kip), and Jason (Courteneay); his grandchildren, Skylar (Nikki), Kelcey (Nick), Bradyn (Jade), Bridget (Garrett), Isabelle, Connor, Bo (Alyssa), Jack, Boston, and Tatumn; and his great-grandchildren, Liam and Rory.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald "Don" and Katherine "Kay"; his brothers, Donald "Skip" and Earl "Sonny"; his nephew, Frankie; and his beloved grandson, Griffin.
Ron's family finds comfort in knowing he spent his final moments exactly where he wanted to be—at home, surrounded by those he loved most. His legacy lives through the family he cherished, the values he instilled, and the countless memories shared by those fortunate enough to know him.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
As Ron would always say, "Rock Chalk Jayhawk!"
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to fund a scholarship for a Turner High School Student because of Ron's lifelong love and support for Turner High School.
