Roy was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1951–1955.

After his tour of duty, he was employed by Bendix-Allied Signal for 36 years. He was well-loved by his colleagues, and at the time of his retirement, he was a supervisor in the metrology lab. Roy was also a member of the Episcopal church where he served as a lay reader and vestry member. Roy was an avid fan of KU basketball. He enjoyed fishing and looked forward to his annual fishing trips with the Stone brothers. He also liked to travel and enjoyed road trips with his wife after his retirement.

Roy’s sense of humor, optimistic attitude, and unceasing resilience endeared him to family and friends. He took great pride in his family and was a loyal husband, father, grandfather, and uncle.
