Ruth M. Blauw, 92, of Leawood, Kansas passed away August 18, 2023.
Ruth was born September 19, 1930 in Scranton, Kansas in Osage County to Clyde W. Smith and Florence Anderson Smith.
Ruth graduated from Washburn Rural High School, and then attended Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas.
Ruth briefly served in the United States Air Force, and was honorably discharged in March, 1953.
Ruth had many interesting jobs during her life, one of which was a ballroom dance instructor with Arthur Murray Dance Studios. Ruth always loved dancing and music.
The bulk of Ruth’s working career, was spent in the Judicial Court system, and in Law Enforcement, which she truly enjoyed. Ruth worked for the Jackson County Magistrate Court in Kansas City, Missouri for 10 years, and then began her 20 yearcareer with the City of Leawood, KS. Starting out as a Records Supervisor, for the Leawood Police Department, she then moved up and eventually retired as an Executive Secretary for the police investigation division. Ruth was honored upon retirement for her service to the City of Leawood, and the Leawood Police Department.
Ruth is survived by her son, Walter Blauw of Laguna Niguel, California and her sister, Florence Kersten of Grants Pass, Oregon.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Joseph Blauw, Jr. as well as several siblings: Betty Waser, Norma Dietzman, Myrtle Buck, Leatha Jansen, and Peter Smith.
Interment will be private, at Forest Hill Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri.
Memorial donations may be made to either the Dementia Society or Alzheimer Association.
