Ruth Ellen Hay was born on September 3, 1925, in Ava, Missouri, to Ray Baird and Queen Baird (Chaffin). Ruth passed peacefully on March 2, 2026, surrounded by the love and comfort of her two children, Sharon Beeler and Steve Hay.
Ruth was a woman of quiet grace. She possessed a striking beauty that others easily saw but which she herself never seemed to recognize. She carried herself with an elegance that appeared most clearly in the simple but consistent ways she lived her life — always impeccably dressed, always thoughtful toward others, and always mindful of the small courtesies that reflect genuine character.
She was, in every sense, beautiful both inside and out. Kindness guided her actions, and she helped people whenever she could, often in small ways that meant a great deal to those around her. Good manners were not merely habits for her but principles she believed in deeply — from proper conduct at the table to the handwritten thank-you notes she faithfully sent in response to any kindness she received.
She was preceded in death by her husband, H. Robert Hay, who passed away in 2019. She is survived by her children, Sharon Beeler and Steve Hay, and by her grandson, Liam Hay.
She lived a long life marked by dignity, generosity, and care for others. Those who knew her will remember not only her elegance and beauty, but also the warmth and consideration she extended so naturally to everyone around her. Ruth will be deeply missed by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wayside Waifs or St. Jude's.
