Ruth Darlean (Burns) Oakes went to heaven early in the morning of October 29, 2009, after battling a heartless disease. She and her husband of almost 57 years, Eugene, attended First Calvary Baptist Church for over 60 years. Together they traveled the world, raised 5 beautiful children, Beverly, Gary, Bill, Linda, and Laura, and spoiled 12 grandchildren. Ruth touched all who knew her with selfless hospitality, delicious cooking, and a friendly smile, often surprising them with humor or a practical joke. She loved roses and butterflies, fireworks and roller coasters.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Monday, November 2 at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. A celebration of Ruth’s life will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 3 at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to Sunflower Health Care, 6399 W. 159th Street, Stilwell, KS 66085.
