Shirley “Spanky” Ann Doss Clauson Johnson, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away Monday, March 8, 2021 at her home. A visitation will be held from 5-7pm Saturday, March 13th, at the Johnson County Funeral Chapel.  A private interment service will be held at a later date at the Johnson County Memorial Gardens. In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Wayside Waifs, 3901 Martha Truman Rd, Kansas City, Missouri 64137.

Shirley, the youngest of eight children of Carl J. and Carrie Doss, was born June 28, 1933.  She and her family lived on the westside of Kansas City in the Quality Hill neighborhood.  She married Robert “Bud” Clauson in 1949 and moved to Parkville, Missouri where she raised her five children.  Shirley was active in her children’s activities.  Her parents lived with them in their later years, first assisting, then later to be cared for themselves, as their health diminished.  She is also preceded in death by a son; Robert Lee Clauson, daughters; Linda Sue Clauson Eskew and Carrie A. Clauson Plattner, half-brother; Louis Velten and brothers Noble Doss and Carl E. Doss.

In 1980, Shirley married Gordon M. Johnson and moved to Johnson County, Kansas.  Shirley was employed several years in the banking and insurance business.  She retired from Employers Reinsurance Corporation after 13 years and became a fulltime homemaker and help mate for her husband.  She and her husband traveled extensively.  Known for her cooking skills and her passion for shoes, purses, and love for “Mac”, their West Highland Terrier, and especially for family.  At the time of her death, she is survived by her sons: John C. Clauson and Steven R. Clauson, Stepson; Joseph C. Johnson.  She is also survived by nine grandchildren, two step grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
