We are celebrating the life of Verner Eugene Lundberg...Vern to most, Poppie, Grandpoppie and “Nine Lives Vern'' to special loved ones. Verner, 97, of Overland Park, KS, passed away on October 20, 2022. A visitation will be held from 9-10am Saturday, November 12th at the Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, followed by a Memorial Service at 10am. Vern was born and raised in Nehawka, NE. He was a Marine during WW2, serving in the South Pacific. After the war, he attended Colorado College, where he met Barbara Alta Baird “Babs” Lundberg, his beloved wife of 64 years. While raising five children, they lived in Lincoln and Omaha, NE; Columbus, OH; Deerfield, IL; and settled into the Leawood/Overland Park, KS area for his last 55 years. Vern graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked as an executive in the baking industry for 40+ years, including as an Executive VP at Interstate Brands in KC. He later owned Bryant Carpets in Lee’s Summit, MO. Vern was a devout Christian and a long-time member of Colonial Presbyterian Church, KCMO. He will be reunited with his wife, Barbara “Babs” Lundberg; daughter, Deborah Kay Lundberg; daughter-in-law, Debra Mathieson Lundberg; son-in-law, Robert Faraone; grandson-in-law, Eric Christie; sisters, Charlotte Lillie and Doris Hamilton; and brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Grace Lundberg. Vern is survived by his son, James Lundberg of Kansas City, MO; daughter, Nancy Grove and husband Steve of Long Beach, CA; son, Steven Lundberg of Manhattan, KS; daughter, Lorri Hatfield and husband Kevin of Overland Park, KS, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild. Vern was a man of extreme kindness and integrity, with a deep love for his family. He left an enduring mark on the hearts of those who knew him.
