Overland Park

Vickie Sue (Pohlman) Tucker, age 65, was born on 11/25/1957 to Iris L. (Buckbee) Pohlman and Alfred L Pohlman in Ellinwood, Kansas. She was the first of five children. She passed to the next life on 03/29/2023 in Overland Park, Kansas after a 10-month courageous battle with leukemia. Vickie grew up in Ellinwood, graduating from Ellinwood High where she was a drum majorette and in the jazz band among other activities. She was a member of the UCC Church, often playing the organ and piano. She attended Barton CC on a tennis scholarship, then the University of Northern Colorado in Greely with a B.A. degree in nursing. She later graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a M.A. degree as a Nurse Practitioner. Vickie worked as a nurse in many areas, including Cardiology, Critical Care, ICU and the ER. She also was a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. Vickie married Dr. David Tucker in 2002 and they were both in the medical field. She was an ER Nurse and he was an ER Doctor. They worked in Wichita for years before moving to Overland Park. Vickie excelled as a runner and triathlete, participating in many races including the Pikes Peak Marathon and the IRONMAN Word Championship Triathlon in Hawaii. When not competing, Vickie and her husband enjoyed traveling, hiking and playing golf. She always found time to attend her nieces and nephews sporting events. Four of her nieces recently followed her footsteps into the nursing profession. Her motto, as her license plate read “LUV2SWT” (Love to Sweat) symbolized her passion in life. Vickie is survived by David Tucker, husband of 20 years, two stepsons Jon and Clark Tucker of Tucson and Wichita, respectively. Janie (Pohlman) Davis of Overland Park, Alan and Casey Pohlman of Ellinwood, Mark and Shannon Pohlman of Ellinwood and Sonya (Pohlman) and Greg Lamatsch of Claflin and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials can be made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. There will be a “Celebration of Life” at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 8th at the Downing & Lahey Mortuary, 6555 East Central, Wichita, KS 67206. Cards can be sent to Dave Tucker and Family, 12531 Lowell #2202, Overland Park, Kansas 66213
