Virginia E. Warn

We gather today to celebrate Virginia Ermalee Warn, who lived ninety-six years and four months, and met every one of them with spirit. Virginia was spunky, sharp, and impossible to ignore in the best way. She could walk into a room and hold the whole thing captivated, whether she was telling a story from her growing-up years or diving headfirst into a good political debate. Born in St. Francis, Missouri, in 1930, she was one of six children, and she grew up learning the value of hard work early. She leaves us now as the last of her siblings, the final keeper of a whole generation of memories. In June of 1965, she married the love of her life, Dr. James Donald Warn, a devoted physician who served for decades as Medical Director of the Ozark Tri-County clinic in Neosho, Missouri, before retiring at the age of eighty-eight. They shared a beautiful life rooted in southwest Missouri until Doc preceded her in death in December of 2011. They say behind every good man is a great woman, and Virginia was exactly that. Doc always depended on her to handle every business dealing. She was the office manager for his medical practice, overseeing the office and staff, and she kept the books for a car wash and a laundromat. With her natural gift for business, she also had a hand in real estate ventures and purchases, including opening a small restaurant and a laundromat of their own. And through it all, she still found the time to raise the children who were still at home. Her heart for service reached beyond her family, too. For a few years she served on the city council in Goodman, Missouri, where she helped implement programs that brought much-needed funding into the community. She was well respected and well liked for her efforts and her kindness. Virginia took great pride in her three children: Fran Blankinchip of Fort Smith, Arkansas; Pam and her husband Rick Weaver of Topeka, Kansas; and her son Don Warn of Overland Park, Kansas. Her legacy runs deep, with seven grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren, along with many friends and extended family who loved her dearly. Even into her later years, she loved working in her yard, right up until her failing health finally stopped her. Our family is deeply grateful to the neighbors and friends who were so kind and helpful to her. Virginia will be laid to rest beside her beloved Doc on August 6th, 2026, at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens in Shawnee, Kansas. Virginia, we will miss your stories, your strong opinions, and that captivating spark. Her life, her hard work, and the decisions she made will continue to shape and bless generations to come.
