William Earl Mayberry, a resident of Overland Park, Ks, passed on April 9th, 2026, at the age of 88. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Sue Kenison Mayberry of over 60 years. He is survived by a daughter, Deborah Bova and her husband Jerry and their sons, Adam, Will, Sam, Luke, Gabe and daughter Marty; a son, Mark Mayberry and his wife Deana and their daughters, Jessica, Alexandria, and Amanda; and a daughter, Sarah Donley and her husband Jay and their sons, Jack, Ryan, and Noah. He is also survived by his brothers, Michael Mayberry and wife Betty; and Donald Mayberry and wife Donna, and by his great-grandchildren.
Bill was born in St. Louis Missouri, on September 7, 1937, and graduated from University City High School in 1959. He received an Associate in Arts degree from Hannibal-Lagrange in Hannibal, Missouri in 1957 where he was valedictorian of his class. He completed a B.A. degree at Washington University in 1959, an M.S. in Guidance and Counseling at Southern Illinois University in 1963 and a Ph.D in Educational Psychology from the University of Illinois in 1968.
He was an instructor in the School of Education at Miami University from 1968-1969 and joined the faculty of the University of Missouri-Kansas City, School of Dentistry in 1969 where he was an assistant professor, associate professor and professor. For the last 15 years of his tenure at UMKC he was Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. He retired as a full time faculty member in September, 2000 but continued to serve the school as a part-time faculty member for the next 4 years. He was active in the American Association of Dental Schools and served as the Chair of the Section of Learning Resource.
His hobbies included woodworking, reading, classical music, camping, hiking and travelling.
