Diane Lee Herring, age 93, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2021 of natural causes surrounded by her family. She was born August 6, 1928 in Kansas City, Missouri to Hiram Grider and Violet Dillon Grider. She graduated from Paseo High School and attended Kansas University where she pledged Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother Gigi and a friend to all. Diane was married for 64 years to her high school sweetheart, Robert “Bob” Herring who preceded her in death in 2016.
Diane enjoyed a career for many years in design and high-end furniture sales in Wichita, Kansas, working for Horton’s, Dillards and Ethan Allen. She also owned and managed her own interiors’ consignment shop named “Diane’s”. Diane cherished her time entertaining family and friends around her backyard pool. Those events are special memories for everyone.
Diane loved to love people. She and her husband once took all of a grandson’s 3rd grade class on a bicycle field trip. When not all the children had a bike to ride, they bought and built enough bikes so all the children could ride. Diane went on several bicycle trips with her son, Mark and several grandchildren including riding across Kansas. She loved snow skiing, traveling and especially meeting and talking to people. She “never met a stranger”. Many people who knew Diane, and some who just met her for the first time, would say “she was the most classy woman they ever met”. She enhanced everyone’s life and was an inspiration for all who knew her.
Her life was a living example of 1 Timothy 5:10 – “and is well known for her good deeds, such as bringing up children, showing hospitality, washing the feet of the saints, helping those in trouble and devoting herself to all kinds of good deeds.”
She is survived by her three sons and their families, Mark and Susan, Chris and Tonette, and Paul and Nancy; ten grandchildren, Chelsea, Cale, Brandon, Alex, Marissa, Rachel, and John Paul, Tasha, Tanya and Gianni; and Thirteen great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will begin Thursday morning October 14, 2021 at 10:00am at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS. Because of health and pandemic concerns services will be held for immediate family only.
